City reminds residents of watering restrictions
The City of Tampa adopted a once-a-week watering restriction in August 2024.
While the Southwest Florida Water Management District declares a Modified Phase II Water Shortage, the city is reminding residents that the city has been under a once-a-week watering restriction since December 1, 2023 and in August of 2024 adopted the policy year round.
At the time of adoption using available data and looking at the reduction in usage during the temporary restriction, the city saw nearly a 10% reduction in usage. Based on demand, going back to 2 days a week watering would result in the City having to purchase water to meet that demand. The city estimates over the past two years this restriction has resulted in saving 4 billion gallons of water compared to twice-a-week watering.
Allowed watering days are based on the last digit of the address between the hours 6pm and 8am. New landscaping, drip irrigation systems or reclaimed water not subject to the restriction.
The city provides information for water conservation including rebates and water saving devices.
